Growing Pains

From the day after Christmas until this past Monday, chances are if you turned on WMMR (93.3 FM), you heard music and music only.

With the exception of new night jock Donielle Flynn, who began her regular airshift on New Year's Eve, the only thing heard on 'MMR besides music were a remote live broadcast or two, advertisements and positioning statements claiming that they've "always rocked, always will."

With the station's 30th anniversary coming up this year, 'MMR has decided to fine-tune the station, not only in terms of music, but with their on-air lineup as well. On Monday, The Rock 'n' Roll Morning Show with Sack and Davis replaced Matt Cord in drive time, with Cord now handling afternoons.

Paul "Sack" Sacilowski has been doing weekends and fill-ins for years, and Mark Davis arrives from Los Angeles. Pierre Robert will continue to spread his karma middays and "Tattooed Love Goddess" Flynn, transplanted from Detroit, is taking on nights.

Frank Lario, who had been doing nights on an interim basis, returns to overnights.

Victims of the station's new attitude are WMMR vet "Bubba" John Stevens, longtime Philly radio fixtures Ed Sciaky and Helen Leicht, who were all shown the door.

What music adjustments can we expect to hear on the "new" WMMR? According to the station's Ted Kelly, "Now that [WMMR] is 30 years old this year, it has the opportunity to stick with the music that's part of its heritage, but get back to the cutting edge/breaking-new-artists kind of thing that sometimes, over the years, might have gotten clouded over."
