Sexy or Sexist?

Sexy or Sexist?

Who says fathers and sons don't communicate anymore? For years Stan Rabinski drove his son Ed to see hardcore punk shows and instead of being repulsed by the raucous mayhem he decided to form a band with his son's friends. The result is Stan and the Ass Bandits, a group combining the sounds of giddy garage rock with Stan's love for pornography. Songs like "Balls-A-Poppin'," "Ass Attack" and "Night of the Whang" are so reverent to the adult video titles they're based on, they include a melodic come shot.

Why is Stan, a 52-year-old father, so infatuated with throbbing, triple-X action?

"I've been divorced for 10 years and don't get out to meet gals often," he admits. As a result, Stan's had to take matters into his own hands. Luckily his job at Benny's Sexual Appliance and Magazine Shop in Bristol, PA, allows him to find the cream of the steamy crop.

The singer-songwriter works so much at the "Appliance" store, it's hard for him to play gigs.

"He's like the Brian Wilson of the band," explains Stan's songwriting partner, guitarist Darren Finizio. Stan writes the lusty lyrics, but Finizio often ends up performing them live.

Finizio says that Stan and the Ass Bandits' songs, which probably won't be music to many feminists ears, aren't degrading to women.

"Sex isn't dirty. Feminism is dirty because it propagates that the porn industry exploits females," reasons Finizio.

Hmm… I was going to ask Gloria Steinem to go to the next Ass Bandits show, but maybe I should reconsider.

Itching for more of the Ass Bandits? Write to Darren Finizio for a copy of their album , Erotic Sing-a-longs, at 5111 Inlet Drive, Bensalem, PA 19020.
