six pick
Creating a sonic wash thick enough to swim in, Bailter Space plays the kind of music that can, like the tides, pick you up and and carry you away. Over the last 18 years, this trio's members have evolved from pure distortion mongers to more tuneful noise merchants. Solar.3 (Turnbuckle), the New Zealand-via-New York City band's seventh full-length, continues the tradition of melding ominous atmospherics with menacing guitars. Guiding the fray is guitarist/vocalist Alister Parker leaning on the pedals for a mossy, shoegazing mess. But his lyrics, often touching on the emptiness and endlessness of space and oceans, accent the affair with a double dose of wonder and dread.
