hit and run

Belly Up!

"The family has been wrestling over the idea of selling the place for the past few years," says Mike Tayoun, current manager of the nightclub. Plans to refurbish the establishment were put on the back burner when Mike broke his neck and back in a car accident on June 6. Currently recuperating at home in New Jersey, Mike figures that if he wanted to get the place redone in time for Labor Day, he would have had to have been back on his feet a month ago. As it is, Mike probably won't be up and around for another month.

"This is very sad for us," he says. "We go back and forth over the idea all the time."

The club, located at Second and Chestnut Streets, was started by Mike's grandfather, Solomon "Pop" Tayoun, and has been run by the family for three generations.

Why an auction?

"It's not to settle any taxes or mortgage," he assures. "It's just to have a quick sale." Interested buyers can contact Ed Barkowitz at 739-1021.
