six pick

Oxygen Tent

This Atlantic City quartet held its own quite well last August at the Khyber, opening for the local juggernaut of Sonny Sixkiller and the Bigger Lovers. Taking their name from a line from David Bowie's song "Diamond Dogs," Oxygen Tent—singer-guitarist Adam Berado, guitarist Kurt Douglass, bassist Patrick Stecher and drummer Brett Simonsen—updates the Beatles-Byrds-Big Star model with eased rhythms and weaving guitars (Berado also cites the influence of Television and Luna). Oxygen Tent's contribution to the recent spinART compilation Lemon Lime Vol. 2, "Puppy Love," is a sprightly piece of power-pop wit. Another song, "Principia," ties a smoldering Lennon-McCartney-like melody with lyrics inspired by Newton and Darwin.
