This former Stray Cat has floundered a bit with solo projects that tempered his rockabilly influences in favor of straight-ahead bar tunes. Now he's back with a 17-piece big band and a muse steeped in '40s swing. On his most recent offering, Guitar Slinger (Interscope), Setzer injects new vigor into standards such as "The House Is Rockin'" and "Town Without Pity," as well as the Stray Cats' classic "Rumble in Brighton." He also lets you know he hasn't forgotten his punk roots, co-writing several tunes with the Clash's Joe Strummer. Dust off your wingtips, get your lapels pressed and get ready to cut that rug (or the T.L.A.'s cement floor, as the case may be).
