Good Morning Story
(Tone Casualties)
A collage of music, art and electronics, Good Morning Story is the first studio album from kraut-rock pioneer Holger Czukay in six years. Founder of legendary German group Can, Czukay enlists fellow Can alums Michael Karoli, Irmin Schmidt and Jaki Leibezeit for guest appearances as well as Jah Wobble. Most of the music on Czukays entry into the digital medium is sampled and digitally processed. Czukay does stay true to his original vibe with organic-sounding drums, rich guitar sounds that play jazzy melodies and bizarre riffs and tinty bass lines reminiscent of Cans early days. Moody synthetic strings range from sinister to chaotic as if in some avant-garde 70s film and all sorts of spoken word and religious chanting drift throughout this psychedelic mood swing. The last of the six tracks, "Mirage," is a beatless dreamscape that could be the soundtrack to a peyote trip somewhere in the middle of India. Good Morning Story is a testament to Czukays inventive Stockhausen-style approach to music and an accompanying release, La Luna, is expected in early 2000.
