Solid Steel

Aside from the production and video wizardry for which they’re renowned, the Ninja Tune label’s Coldcut also launched the U.K.’s Solid Steel radio show in 1998 (first on Kiss FM, currently aired on BBC London Live and broadcasted in more than 20 countries). Solid Steel is committed to the pillaging, splicing, regurgitating and sauteing of old and new flavors, from jazz to spoken word to big band to hip-hop to soundtracks, and then generating a new menu of psychedelic funky downtempo nourishments. Ninja Tune’s latest mix CD, Solid Steel — Now Listen, compiled by Ninja veteran DJ Food and the show’s scratch-master DK (also known for his reworking of Coldcut’s famed, inflamed single "Timber"), offers a delectable taste of the show with flowing snippets of eccentric bits from artists like Boards of Canada, Art of Noise, Herbie Hancock and Blackalicious. Food and DK are coming to bring the Solid Steel flava to Philly.
