Running Numbers

Published: Aug 24, 2001

32 ,829 Total number of plane movements at Philadelphia International Airport in September 2001, compared to 41,905 during the month before.

14 ,000 Altitude, in feet, to which Freefall Adventures' aircraft will climb — "within full view of the Philadelphia and Atlantic City skylines" — before the participants in C.U.F.F.S., Cops United Free Falling Spectacular, jump out. This Sept. 9 skydiving event is being organized by Policeman's Benevolent Association of New Jersey Local 362 and Officer Albert Clements, a licensed skydiver since 1995, to raise money for the Special Olympics. Call 1-800-SKYDIVE to register. I don't care how much experience you have, Clements, seeing Philly and A.C. simultaneously can't possibly be good for one's spatial orientation. Among other things.

113 Number of freshman students enrolled in the inaugural class of Constitution High School, which will open Sept. 7 at Seventh and Market streets as the only district high school with the theme of Civics Education and American Studies. Something tells me the Patriot Act is behind this.

15 Number of consecutive years The Rittenhouse Hotel has earned the AAA Five-Diamond Award for accommodations and service. The hotel, "known for its over the top service and lavish amenities," will be featured on a Travel Channel episode of "Great Hotels" Sept. 11 at 11:30 a.m. Maybe their deluxe accommodations actually include the Travel Channel, unlike the my-house Hilton. Thanks a lot, Comcast.

6 Number of years, in my opinion, that have passed since one could bask in the full-on fresh-baked cookie aroma from the Nabisco (now Kraft) plant on Roosevelt Boulevard. This number was prompted by my sighting of a Nabisco truck with paneling stating that their products had been "Baked on the Boulevard," a condition in which I don't recommend being, especially if you're driving on it. Face it, Drew Lazor, it just wouldn't be safe.
