April 25-May 1, 2002 music icepackI feel summer now: "Caroline, No" at dawn, "Summer Wind" at dusk, "I Took a Trip on a Gemini Spaceship" in between. Grey Goose on the rocks. Josh Wink stretching, while Tuning Spork, Worship and Springlab DJs do Saturdays in Seger park on Lombard. Molly Russakoff's new art/poetry/holistic bookstore/cafe on Ninth Street, jamming in the Italian Market like wild beat bocce bingo. S'all good. After 10 years o' Troc-ing, Sloane puts his manager flashlight in capable hands (Gordon Walker) to concentrate on his chunk of the North Star. Plus, we can smoke at the Troc now (ciggie-ad money goin' 'round?).... Global Illage -- Chris Cuzme (saxophone/gongs), Dan Sears (trumpet/Tibetan bowls), Jim Hamilton (percussion) and Tim Motzer (guitars/sampler) -- knock over Tritone on April 28.... It's Bozo Porno Circus at La Tazza 108 on April 30: fetish kids in makeup using power tools for industrial records on Martin Atkins' label.... Against better judgment, Aaron Luis Levinson (Gutbucket) is forming a '60s Latin boogaloo quintet, to be called either Boogaloo Conspiracy or En Una Nota. "We'll levitate a whimpering chinchilla four feet off glistening tarmac to prove our point," he said. While ya wait, Philadelphia Experiment producer Levinson just did likewise to Detroit with Motor City musical heroes Carl Craig, Geri Allen, Bennie Maupin, Marcus Belgrave (of Chester), Regina Carter and Karriem Riggins (Slum Village).... What's E! TV sweetheart Jules Asner's fave disc, according to Maxim? Philly's Jimmy Luxury, yo.... Discontinuing Tribecca gigs, DJ Reno's doing a fabulicious Saturday "Brainchild" at Glam.... Area 609's Ray Sheehan pimps and hoes yer ass at Envy, throwing a midsummer-heat celebrity look-alike costume party with Playboy mag's Miss November 2001 and Studio Six DJs in A.C. April 26.... After a drawn out hoo-haa, Johnny Ray Tyson's Flatspin in da Northeast opens April 24.... Full Frame/File 13 are gearing for a split-label release with the progenitors of my fave 2001 CD, Meet Yr Acres: The Capitol Years. First they release the countrified, Shai-produced Pussyfootin', and now a second full-CD recording is at Miner Street with producers Brian McTear and Thom Monahan, due out by 2002's end.... Who hung where?: While the Goo Goo Dolls lugged tons of equipment to play puny songs at Indre for a Y-100 Sonic Session, Elvis Costello was solo, making big music at the Tower Broad Street, strumming guitar and looping his own drums and samples. Stef Renée's Soul Sanctuary hosted marvy Motown multi-instrumental caucasoid Remy Shand on more than one occasion. John Popper popped on stage for Moe at Electric Factory. And ’N Sync stayed at Sofitel, ate at Rouge (where crazed kids were loud enough to bug patrons outside Bar Noir), then hung tough at Deco's VIP lounge with Philly producer Andre Harris for Rampage's platinum party for Busta Rhymes. Rhymes hung mostly in the DJ booth spinning his songs. All of 'N Sync sipped Courvoisier, and Chris Kirkpatrick -- the one with the evil beard -- paid homage to my Patrice Amorosi-opera-length turquoise necklace. Don't be shocked to see Justin Timberlake 'round town. Despite the no-solo-Sync stories from Jive, Timberlake's been at The Studio with high-profile Harris and partner Vidal Davis doing solo songs. So is Eve. The Harris-Davis team is traveling too, working with TLC in Atlanta, J.Lo in L.A. and Backstreet Boys in Florida.... To prep for his Lost Film Fest No. 7 in June, Scott Beiben hosts a bash with Andrew Jeffrey Wright at Space 1026 to premiere Wright's The Manipulators installation/film thingie. Quintron and Miss Pussycat'll be in house.... ABC-TV (Best Commercials You've Never Seen) is so happy with Scott Brooks (Philly's Bud man) that it ordered six new installments. Next one: April 26. Plus, Brooks' whassup pals will be the subject of TNN's new Fame for 15 (produced by the folks behind VH1's Behind the Music).... Bros. Suggarillo go Wild West Vaudeville at the North Star on April 27, with livestock Aron Dunlap, Prairie Dogs, Beach Balls (doing Billy Ray Cyrus), Dito van Dolly Parton and Pig Iron Theatre's preview of its new show, Flop.... Celt Information Society? B (for Belfast) 52s? No. It's Eurodance: MC/DJ Timokha, Gennaro, Ylia Dz and Magdalina's new wavey dance/vocal Wednesdays at Plough and the Stars.... April 24's Goddess gig at Nostradamus stars Hard Liquor-er Needles Jones' "A Life Well Squandered!" and a homage to Nico with Ben Edwards' Velvet-y score.... On April 28, Ulana's goes art 'n' rock 'n' roll with Jessie Myers’ art show.... While wishing Weiss Bros.' 2-4 Club 25 happy years, say hello to Bump's baby showery Drag Sunday brunch with Dan Contarino (starting April 28), where I, A.D., will spin a daffy hetero-centric take on Broadway, cabaret and torch tunes every week. -- Respond to this article in our Forums -- click to jump there
