May 2- 8, 2002 musicpicks High Times TourHip-hopIt's like a soundtrack for weed. The end of April marked the release of THC: The Hip Hop Collection Vol. 1, featuring 15 blazin' cuts constructed with the illustrious, green-loving counterculture magazine in mind. Hip-hop superstars like RZA (Wu-Tang Clan), B-Real (Cypress Hill), The Pharcyde, The Beatnuts, The High and Mighty and Black Moon dish out exclusive neck-snappers with lyrical wizardry. Hence, a tour has been launched and is making its way to our hip-hop-loving town. Brace yourself for Brooklyn's old-school rap legends, Tek and Steele's Smif-N-Wessun (a.k.a. Cocoa Brovaz), back with more sinister beats fused with their smooth, laid-back rhythmic ranting about inner-city violence and gun-play. Also, be ready for the lyrical attitude of Buckshot (of Black Moon), Afu-Ra's combination of lyrical wittiness and spirituality-driven martial arts warfare and the B-boy gangsterism and futuristic imagery of Brooklyn veterans Non Phixion (made up of Ill Bill, Goretex, Sabac Red and DJ Eclipse). Tue., May 7, 8 p.m., $15-$17, w/ Smif-N-Wessun, Non Phixion, Afu Ra, and Buckshot, TLA, 334 South St., 215-336-2000. -- Respond to this article in our Forums -- click to jump there
