Neko Case

In today's mumbling, stumbling rock world, Neko Case is a shining beacon of vocal chords, a woman who isn't afraid to raise her gloriously raw voice when she has something to say. When Case puts her mark on a song -- whether she's pitching perfect pop with the New Pornographers, belting out Loretta Lynn's "Rated X," or lamenting lost romance on Furnace Room Lullaby -- the music's forever given a shot of ebullience. But Case is as much a stylist as she is a crooner, and she has the know-how to let the most heartsick bits of the lost-love Lullaby and her recent living room-recorded EP, Canadian Amp (Lady Pilot) come off like they're being told in confidence. It's these secrets that should provide excellent fodder for the Tin Angel's small-room setting.

Neko Case and Her Boyfriends, Sun., May 5, 7:30 p.m., $12, Tin Angel, 20 S. Second St., 215-928-0770.
