The once sleepy burg of Stankonia seems to be getting bigger and more popular day by day. Though OutKast gentrified the lolling Atlanta gospel-funk region, The Goodie Mob put it on the map in the early ’90s with its spacey soulful sanctified sound. While that collective’s Big Gipp makes fuckable funk with his Mrs. Joi, Cee-Lo Green remains the holiest -- yet most heated -- of hip-hop rollers with his solo Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections (Arista). The nasal-voiced, rapid-fire rapping Cee floats like a butterfly through flighty topics (see “Closet Freak” and “El Dorado Sunrise (Super Chicken),” but never blows his Bible’s cover. Intensely emotive moments like a heady “Big Ole Words (Damn)” and “Spend the Night in Your Mind” rolls it down for the good groove and the good book. Shout hallelujah; c’mon get Cee-Lo. Get ready for Judgment Day.
Fri., May 31, 9 p.m., $15-$18, TLA, 334 South St., 215-336-2000.
