One Love

What better way to kick-start summer than with a generous dose of hot Jamaican rhythms? The One Love Festival tour is heading to Philly with a jam-packed bill of reggae all-stars, including ska legend Frederick "Toots" Hibbert and the Maytals, Grammy-nominated soulman Luciano, dance hall hit-makers Tanto Metro and Devonte and DJ Stone Love. "We're bringing all the elements together under one roof, in one lineup," says event co-promoter "Jamaican Dave" Russell, whose production company has been bringing Caribbean club nights and concerts to the city for the past five years. He hopes One Love will bring together a wide range of music lovers -- "a cross of ethnic and age demographics. That's how the name came about." Luciano says One Love's crowds so far have been getting their groove on: "I think 9-11 really shook up the entire world. People need this kind of vibe."

One Love Reggae Festival, Fri., June 7, 8 p.m., $29.50, the Electric Factory, Seventh and Willow sts., 215-LOVE-2222.
