Besides Zoobilee, perhaps the biggest hospitality-related charity event of the year, the summertime is relatively quiet when it comes to restaurant fundraisers. Mark your calendar for Mon., June 24, as the Starr Restaurant Organization will produce its own philanthropic endeavor: a seven-course All-Starr Charity Dinner, benefiting City of Hope Cancer Center, at Tangerine ($150 per person). Each of Stephen Starr’s septet of executive chefs (yes, including the Iron Chef Japan himself, Masaharu Morimoto, and the godfather of Nuevo Latino fare, Douglas Rodriguez of Alma de Cuba) will create a special course that, while representing the culinary style of the chef’s respective restaurant, is not offered on the standard menu.
Philly's French Quarter, better known as Rittenhouse Square, has a new addition --an authentic one at that. L’Hexagone (1718 Sansom St.) is being billed by its proprietors, Jean-Wilfrid Thibault and Raphael Perrier, as our town's first bona fide bar Francais. The casual menu of fare includes salads, cheese plates, p‰tés and bistro-style sandwiches.... Striped Bass has added a full raw menu of oysters, caviar, tartars and carpaccios. It's also added a $50 bar-menu item, where patrons may order a three-course meal along with three cocktails.... Speaking of Striped Bass, proprietor Neil Stein and executive chef Terence Feury will play guest host, along with co-host Hope Cohen, on a number of CN8's Fretz Kitchen shows during the month of June. Throughout the shows, scheduled to air June 7, 13 and 19, Stein will provide insight on the restaurant industry and will share stories of past experiences.... After seven years of catering and dishing Sunday brunch, Campus Epicurean (4248 Spruce St.) has started serving dinner from Tuesday through Saturday. The petite cafe seats 36 inside and 15 outside.... The Prime Rib has added a jazz vocalist to its piano-bass duo, Friday nights, 7-11.... On Mon., June 10, Fork will host a wine-paired dinner, featuring wines available for under $20 at Pa. liquor stores. Co-owners Roberto Sella and Ellen Yin will pair eight wines with a four-course menu of light fare for $60 per person, all-inclusive. Two seatings are available.... For those aspiring to improve their cooking skills, the Inn Keeper's Kitchen, adjacent to Dilworthtown Inn in West Chester, offers classes in a state-of-the-art studio led by many of the area's leading culinary talents.
