Gina Kaz

Known for her impassioned, haunting voice (think Björk) and complex piano arrangements (think Tori), Gina Kaz is gaining momentum. Last October, City Paper told you the classically trained songwriter (then called Gina Kazanicka) was a "local act on the move" -- and she's proved it by earning a Leeway Foundation artist's grant and touring New York, Boston and London. She also teamed up with bassist Jon Roberds and drummer Tim Karsten and the trio obviously has chemistry: They recorded her long-awaited debut album, Decipher, in only three days at Indre Studios. Don't miss her CD launch party and performance this Friday. How many times do we have to tell you?

Fri., June 14, 8-10 p.m., $6, Sedgwick Cultural Center Theater, 7137 Germantown Ave., Mt. Airy, 215.248.9229, www.ginakaz.com.
