Kick Out the Jams

B-boys and B-girls from all over the world will come together to celebrate the evolution of hip-hop music and dance during the weeklong "Illadelph Legends: Honoring the Source" dance festival. Curated by Rennie Harris, Illadelph Legends will mesh local, national and international artists in dance performances, open jam sessions, panel discussions, master-level classes and extensive outreach. Harris started Illadelph Legends in 1998 as a chance for master teachers and students to meet, take classes and share hip-hop dance on an intimate level. Performances will feature video footage from the early days of hip-hop as well as live demonstrations by guest artists, interspersed with free-styling from selected local performers. This year's roster of guest teachers and performers includes: Don Campbell, Boogaloo Sam and the Electric Boogaloos, Rock Steady Crew members Crazy Legs, Lil' Lep and Pop Master Fabel, Kemistry, The Untouchables and members of Rennie Harris' Puremovement company.

Illadelph Legends 2002 Dance Festival, opens Fri., June 21, through June 29, pre-registration required, $375 entire festival, $75 day passes, $10 panel discussion, Community Education Center, 3500 Lancaster Ave., 215-382-8191, ext. 11, www.puremovement.net.
