Where Philly’s concerned, earth usually connects Will Smith to Fourth of July box office fireworks. Me, I nominate King Britt, the hipper man in black. The DJ who brings weekly Harmony to Aqua Lounge (every Thursday), is all over July, starting with the deep liquid house of his Scuba project’s long awaited Om label CD Hidden Treasures this holiday (as well as a Scuba remix of Jazzanova’s “Mwela Mwela”). After that, summer is Brittseason: remixes of Kindred’s “Rhythm of Life”; “Love” by lady girl Rosie on Island; a collab with Dozia for Angelique Kidjo’s “Tumba”; Josh 1’s “Contemplation” and re-doing Tony Scott tunes for the Verve label. August brings King’s curated remix for neighbor Ropeadope’s The Philadelphia Experiment Remixed as well as a collab with Oba Funke for the Karma Giraffe label CD co-starring Chuck Treece. Plus his naughty hip-hop BBE CD’s nearly done. Sick of new King? Media Bureau’s playing best of Britt’s Full Circle show on WRTI online www.beleza-music.org/vivid/full_circle.html. Done?… Writer/director Richard Murray’s hip-hop drama Snipes finally got distribution (RuffNation Films in association with a new releasing company, Innovation Film Group) and a screen date (seven cities, starting with Labor Day’s premiere in Snipes star Nelly’s home, St. Louis). Look for trouble as Saint Jack’s ad designer Eric Weiss designs a poster as controversial as the trailer still awaiting an MPAA rating.… Speaking of film, why did Roger Guenveur Smith miss last week’s Fringe Fest 2002 press conference as scheduled? Cuz he was finishing off a movie starring Sylvester Stallone. Yuck.… As suddenly as she hooked it up at Brave New World, as of July 1, Stef Renee stepped down from her role as VibeMistress for Soul Sanctuary, citing “creative differences.”… Off to Chicago to steel-guitar his heart away is Mike “Slo Mo” Brenner, who after playing on Badly Drawn Boy’s About A Boy and the new Marah CD, will work with Steve Albini on a new Songs:Ohia CD at Electrical Studios. (Billy Corgan’s new Zwan project is next door. Hurt him, Slo Mo!)…. Rumor has the no-longer-named Tantra -- now Head -- just getting offered a develop-deal with Atlantic. You go, Lexie!… Are you a big-money locker holder at 32° (16 S. Second St.)? If so, starting July 6, you’ll have the privilege of exclusive entrance and VIP accommodation to Trump’s new Casbah in A.C.… Channel 54 (DUTV) goes big screen when it presents Unquote Television -- the cable outlet’s weekly shorts-show featuring the likes of John Lumia and Tania Isaac -- at the Prince July 10.… Marmont/Swanky/Savannah Executive Chef Raul Bacordo is now partner in the whole Frankowski shebang. Congrats.… If Philly Soul Collective -- Willyum, Carl, Kevin -- ain’t spinning Chocolate City (The Iron Gate, July 4) or Brooklyn (Halcyon, July 6, with bud Rob Paine touring for his mixed CD Wor.CD.01) they’re starting cool blue Saturdays like the downtempo one at Liquid Blue.… Where does Felicity’s Scott Speedman nosh most mornings whilst filming 24th Hour? I hear Fresh Fields near Art Museum.… Napoleon’s got a singing partner: Michael Richard Kelly. The 222 South St. location offers Thursday-through-Saturday cabaret with crooner Kelly and pianist Alan Lee. Partner Dino Cataldi does not sing. But he hums. Their neighbor -- the new Club 218 -- offers louder options on floor two now that Scott KB, starting July 5, brings Stepping Stone’s live slate of bands he brought to Ulana’s.… The Strapping Fieldhands introduce a first CD in eons, The Third Kingdom (Omphalos), to Khyberites July 6… if you’re not busy digging ex-Bonehead Tim Bowen’s new CD Frankie and the Avalons (very ABBA/B-52’s) done with Su Teears (Clutch Cargo) and Lynda McGlaughlin, check Tim’s mammoth new paintings on www.inliquid.com. It’s a perfect backdrop to Bowen’s CD.… Who stopped by Cher-freak Scott Stoltz of About the Beat Records’ mega-Cher window display on Pine? Cher, limo and all. (She didn’t get out.)… Slipstate’s noisy Maxx Luvv and Dev79 bring Afrik Prophet -- Brooklyn dub master/party tosser -- to Atlas, July 5.… The gals of Sugartown (and DJ pals Shiva and Lina) after talking Ladyfest for so long, are getting to the cash-raising end of it by holding a DJ jam fundraising benefit at The Khyber July 4 and a triple-bill rawk gig at The Balcony July 5 with The Hissyfits, Satan’s Riff Raff and X’s X’s. All this leads to an all-day bash at Rotunda (Aug. 17). And that still ain’t the actual fest. That gal forum takes place in 2003.

Got some good gossip or nightlife news? Were you -- and this is just an example -- at London Grill the other night when John Bolaris pulled down his shirt to show off his hairless chest and announce to a lady dinner companion, “I shave it.”? Contact Icepack HQ, a_amorosi@citypaper.net.
