Call of the Wild
You don't have to be an old lady on a cruise or a desperate bachelorette to go to Alaska.

Having dissed Allen Iverson for being a diva (from me, that’s gotta sting), I can proudly say he’s an “alleged” thug, too. What’s next? Punching Lil’ Bow Wow? Probably not. The Like Mike tyke will appear, we hear, at Iverson’s Summer Classic, July 19-21. July 20’s “Dream Day” in Camden, coordinated by local agent Craig Kaplan, features a softball game pitting NBA stars and celebs against local media to raise money for The Boys and Girls Clubs of Philly and Camden. Word is, A.I. the rapper is still set to perform.… In other make-believe thug news, Jersey filmmaker Sal Mazzotta gets bigger budgets and more stars for each flick. For a soon-filming My Cousin Mimmo, which has a meet-and-greet at Chemistry on July 24, Mazzotta got Leo Rossi, Joe “Joey Pants” Pantoliano (both will be at the party), Dennis Farina and William Forsythe. Tickets? Eagle Films toll free, 800-750-7129.… After his R5 all-ages shows at the First Unitarian Church received complaints from a neighborhood association (“not about drinking, fighting, being loud, littering or breaking things, but just because they were there”), Sean Agnew got raided by L&I and the Philly police. He was told to “cease operations” on July 12. Agnew states, “The city contends the space was not legally allowed to hold entertainment events for the general public.” This leaves all-ages crowds in the dust and Agnew, who’s looked at other venues -- including David Cohen’s Life -- in a lurch. “Club owners are uninterested in hosting all-ages shows, as they are unable to make a large profit on the crowds.” While Agnew is out placing Church gigs in alternative venues like Gasoline and the First Unitarian’s upstairs sanctuary, he’s asking for letters of outrage to be sent to SaveAllAgesShows@aol.com.… Counting Crow Adam Duritz threw hissy fits at techs and Crows upstairs at Tower on Broad Street. Other rockers were nicer: Brian Setzer stopped by Glenside’s bluebilly Blue Comet, jamming as usual. Foreigner supped at Morimoto. Goldie hung at Cuba Libre. Fave TV dad Ozzy Osbourne and nine young folk, including daughter Kelly, ate at Sawan the night before Ozzfest. No one said “fuck.” His crew of MTV filmers hung at Bar Noir, liberally using the word “fuck.” And David E. Williams got a last minute invite to sing and play piano at a reception for TLA’s gay film fest Bride of Chucky screening at the Prince with Jennifer Tilly in tow. Tilly was also at Tritone on Sunday night.… Is it true? Bryan Dilworth is buying a bar on S. Eighth Street not far from Low ?… On July 21, director Bill Haley’ll shoot Steve Phoenix: The Untold Story at Club 218. Wanna be an extra? Call 610-892-7970, ext. 19.… American Mortals salon and gallery honors the girls of Niko (Lush Puppy and Ryder) with a summer 2002 sale and showing of portraits/products by Pennsylvania Council of the Arts Fellowship award 2002 recipient Marc Brodzik on July 19. The Niko ladies follow that with their Silk City party/presentation, on July 22, of The Big Jangle, a Tom Petty cover band.… When manageress Meredith Waldman isn’t busy seeing off Rich Medina (who started his U.S. tour with Zap Mama at Black Lily) or steering Alma Horton’s ladyalma.com, she’s starting weekly parties with Playground Maps and DJ Jugo: Blank Space, at Trust, July 18.… Om Records presents the party for King Britt presents Scuba’s Hidden Treasures remix comp, with DJs Britt and Rob Life in tow July 18 at Aqualounge. Have a scubatini.… Robert Fanelli’s Action Plus party for their Cinco de Five-O CD is at the North Star on July 19.… Imagine my surprise: Duck into Sneaker Pimps at North Star and Chris Corner is singing all Kelli Dayton’s lines. Thought she sounded hoarse on that new CD.… “I wrote the book. I’m the singer-songwriter-guitarist of the real band, The Movies,” says Richard Turgeon, author of Thank You, I’m a Rock Star whose band appears live at Pontiac July 18 and in The Cancer, directed by local flicker Keith Feighan, and The War Effort from campchaos.com.… Electroclash goes old school July 19 at Rotunda for “Rashomon Effect”’: Charles Cohen, dev79 and Mutation Vecto (Greg Waltzer and James Lacey). It’s the Eno-esque pairing’s first live gig.… Did I miss the party? Happy anniversary to Jolly’s in the Latham Hotel, and happy b-day to reggae boss Jamaican Dave, who’ll celebrate July 18 at Club XL in Trenton; to lawyer Charity Worthweim (who’ll celebrate at L’Hexagone); to Free Library mistress Gina Sigal; to Craig “I need to get drunk and burn something” Russell; and to prodigal edit boss David Warner.
