The Spice

They've stormed the college-radio airwaves, been plastered across the pages of counterculture music magazines and rocked the stages of The Khyber, the TLA and Silk City for the past four years. Now, just back from a jam-packed East Coast tour, the Arrakis camp of MCs, producers and DJs are going to throw down for the hometown. Celebrating the label's first official CD release, a compilation called The Spice, Briz, Kenneth Masters, Dept. of Rec., Uncle T and Digs DarkLighter join forces with high-powered underground guest stars, like MTV battle champ Breez Evahflowin'; Rasheed, a.k.a. Maylay Sparks; and DJ Noize for a trip laden with ill lyricism and grimy basement beats. The entire Arrakis squad will perform the album in order, track by track, and take one giant step for hip-hop-kind. Wooo, that's spicy.

Thu., July 18, $7 ($5 if you buy CD at show), 9 p.m.-2 a.m., with Dept. of Rec., Briz, Uncle T, Digs DarkLighter, Kenneth Masters, Breez Evahflowin’, iCON the Mic King, Tonedeff, Pack FM, Styles Infinite, Des, Fowlmowf and 40th Dimension, Silk City, Fifth and Spring Garden sts., 215-592-8838, www.arrakisrecords.com.
