Beat Box

Whoa Beat Box, slow your roll please? Nope, we keep it on and poppin’. It’s still summer right?

Alert! Alert! There’s a new kid on the block: Level Thursdays at Atlas (yes, yes, the former World Cafe, Limbo and, oh damn, all the other names this place had!). All we know is this week you’ll see Meddafore, Prajna, Reflect and guest DJ Kwestion (he’s ill, right?). Oh yeah, you can also get on the mic, so come strapped with lyricism that means something -- because all the jigga-what/who-wannabes can stay home. Thu., July 25, Atlas, 2063 South St., 215-735-9939, 10 p.m.-2 a.m., $3.

It's Rennie-time! Philadelphia dance legend and the man who toured the world with his critically acclaimed Shakespeare-meets-hip-hop production Rome & Jewels, is back on home turf for two nights of Illadelph Hip-Hop Legends at the shiny new Kimmel Center. Accompanying Rennie Harris and Puremovement are a deep squad of famous dancers, MCs and DJs. Check the star-studded roster: Crazy Legs, Don Campbell and the Campbell Lockers, Electric Boogaloos, Crutch Master, Nucleus, Pop Master Fabel, Kemistry, The Untouchables and Lil Lep. Join Mr. Harris and his dance troupe as they continue to legitimize hip-hop dance as an art form, taking it to prestigious stages across the globe. Fri.-Sat., July 26-27, The Kimmel Center, Perelman Theater, 215-893-1999, www.kimmelcenter.org, 7 p.m., $30. P.S.: It's really the Hip-Hop, Jazz and Soul fest so clicky-clicky your way to the Kimmel website to check the full lineup for the weekend. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, The Count Basie Orchestra, Regina Carter, Phillip Bailey and Mavis Staples will be in the house. Whew! Talent!

Frequency is in the house, another newbie for nightly adventurers. Like we always say, club nights are here today and gone tomorrow, so let's try to keep this one around? With the Ill Vibe Collective back on the tables, the bi-weekly Frequency hosts DJ Phillee Blunt on the ones and twos and live mic checkin' from sisters from another planet Paradox, Ebony & I-be and Canvas. Tue., July 30, Soul Sanctuary, 722 Arch St., 215-413-9900, www.soul-sanctuary.net, 9 p.m.-2 a.m.

That said and done, what's a girl to do? Roll out. Roll out. And keep on countin' the days until the second installment of what will be the party of the year, the Illadelph Xperiment this September, coming to a 1616 near you.
