If R5 askew at First Unitarian ain’t enough, there’s Reducing Americans’ Vulnerability to Ecstasy Act of 2002, or the RAVE Act. The bill -- reducing drugs to chem compounds so serious that they ain’t fun, dag -- would prosecute venue owners, promoters and evil employees for E-sucking sales, etc., with deeeep focus on electronic music with deeeep bass and repetitive rhythm. Sheesh. I’ll get busted at that rate. Go to www.buzzlife.com/buzzdc/page.cfm? pg=contests&contest_id=13 to show disgrunt.… And could there be some sorta Houdini act at Club Nostradamus, Robin Parry’s low-lit boho performance space below Cuvee Notredame, after this weekend’s Circus of Destruction gig? Another rumor has Mark B’s just-opened live room at N. 3rd (booked by Rick D -- all these damn initials!) having trouble with the neighborhood due to volume. Yo, NoLib., give B&D a chance! More definitively, Saigon Slimm’ll split after their July 26 Khyber gig. Shawn Slimm and everyone but Leslie Sanazaro and Aaron Rousakis will reform under a new name soon. Finally, pianist Ted Gerike, the much-loved, white-bearded, always entertaining and engrossing pianist at the Society Hill Hotel, has been let go from tinkling ivories after 22 years. “The boss’ daughter took over,” writes Gerike in an e-mail. “You know the old story: low-budget juke box loaded with whatever now supplies the ambience. Ain’t that a bitch?” More than a bitch, Ted. Somebody get this man a gig now.… On a good rumor tip: I hear the Bryan Dilworth-Steve Simons-partnered bar I mentioned last week is at the Paglia e Fieno spot neighboring Low, and that they snagged fave former Standard Tap chef Mary Kate. Who else is in da neighborhood in six months? Tom DelColle. Formerly of Grape Street and Continental fame, he’s set to open a restaubar closer to Passyunk.… What happened to Udo Kier during his gay/lesbian film fest appearance? Got stuck in Berlin, Germany, filming a TV commercial.… With fans like Donald Fagen, Walter Becker and Michelle Branch (who all caught NYC gigs), you wouldn’t think Jim Boggia needed more good news. He got it. He was just picked up by manager Jack Leitenberg (Herbie Hancock), has high-profile gigs in L.A. and sings background on Jennifer Knapp’s “Say Won’t You Say.”… Talkin’ management, Marah’s overseer, Paul Dickman, is rumored to have signed a co-management deal with Dave Leach, a legendary promo rep, etc., for Polygram, who I hear made tons of cash when Universal bought out Poly.… Roots-rocking Stereo Field got a new name, One Star Hotel, which they’ll christen at The Fire on July 29.… When Shawn Kilroy’s Hector Boyd of London open for Neil Michael Hagerty July 26 at North Star (now with bigger, higher sightlines!), he promises the weirdness of duck suits and more galore.… When Nicole Cashman ain’t event-promoting or commentating on fashion on WPVI Channel 6, she can be seen doing so for NBC-10’s 10 a.m. show.… When Meredith Waldman isn’t seeing Big Rich Medina off to his pilot shoot as co-host for Rosie Perez’s new show, she’s running boat parties with Cozmic Cat and Jugo July 27. Buy tix at Closet Fever and American Mortals.… If it wasn’t auspicious enough that Helen Back’s Str8 Razors made their debut at Tritone (warmup for a weeklong Fringe showcase) in front of Jennifer Tilly, so did G-Room -- the queer mix jam whose monthly parties start at Tritone in August.… Whowhatwhere: Bowie bandleader Carlos Alomar visited infamous DB fan/Doobies manager Patti Brett in order to get pictures of Bowie, Brett and local diamond dogs hanging around Sigma Studios for the recording of Young Americans for a History Channel documentary on his boss. While his Band members supped at David Carroll’s Magazine, Dave Matthews sat drinking at Bar Noir for an hour unrecognized. Once spotted, he sat outside for another hour before walking away quietly. Also, look for Robert Plant to show at WMMR studios July 29, pre-Who gig. And Philly expat Shok will show at Khyber to gig with Stendhal July 26.… Web/barmaster Donal McCoy is running a booze promo at Sassafras, Sundays through Thursdays, 11 p.m.-2 a.m., all open bar, $20. Yikes.… After working with Kevin Shirley at the Sarm West studio in London, Silvertide join George Manney and Gene Shay at the gorgeous Pennypack Park for its festival gig, July 31, with K-Floor (Aug. 7 stars Griffin House and 4 Way Street).… Comedian/radio quipper Steve Trevelise (WDAS, WRDX) hosts a firefighter fundraiser at Runnemede, N.J.’s Comedy Cabaret to raise cash for families of firefighters who lost lives fighting the July 4 blaze in Gloucester Township. Call 856-312-1113.… Wanna help Needles Jones celebrate his b-day, July 25, during his and Psydde’s Hard Liquor Theater “The Eulogy Show” with Scott Johnston, Enya Buttocks and Myra Bazell in tow? Me neither. Psyyyche! Have a happy!
