So who’s my hero of the week? Erica Pratt, the fab Southwest Philadelphia child who chewed through electrical tape to escape kidnappers.… Those of you wonderin’ how come you ain’t seen J.Lo or Ben Affleck ’round town to film Kevin Smith’s Jersey Girl, hold your horses. While Smith (spotted at Pat’s Steaks and Rouge) has set up his View Askew shop, shooting begins in late August at a Philly Naval Business Center sound stage and in Paulsboro and other spots in New Jersey. (Smith’ll probably be at the Prince Theater’s comic book hero series, pulp freak that he is.)… A pal o’ mine tells me he recently won rock memorabilia (signed photos, guitars) pulled from a bankruptcy sale. Who was selling? Apparently it was Philly Rock, the Del. Ave. beer-and-burger joint.… Philly’s Touch of Jazz gal duo Floetry debut their single “Floetic” and its video on BET’s 106 & Park program (weeknights, 6 p.m.).… Whowhatwhere? Was that really Eminem and his Anger Management tour cohorts hangin’ late-night at the Broad Street Diner? Indeed. His bus pulled up and out spills crew. Em was laying all over his table while waiting for grub. Tommy Lee went for the more opulent setting of L’Hexagone’s VIP loft after his Troc gig.… Congrats to Wendy Kaiser for getting the gig of creative services director at Philadelphia’s WB17.… After Hoagy Wing replaced Marah drummer Johnny (some minor carpal stuff I hear? ouch) at last Wednesday’s Khyber residency, the band may have gotten some more bad news. Rumor has E2/Artemis way disappointed in Float Away’s debut SoundScan numbers. Then again, E2-owner Steve Earle -- who reportedly wasn’t crazy ’bout the new sound -- ain’t gonna sell dick with his American Taliban-praising CD due September.… As if Ahmir Thompson isn’t busy touring Smokin’ Grooves, finishing up the new Roots CD or starting his DJ tour, this week, in support of his Babies Making Babies (sponsored by Twix), he’s waiting for his bud Common to release the stuff he produced under the new title The Isness (not Electric Circus).… On Aug. 7, Philly Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts presents “Music Business Boot Camp” at 9 a.m., Finnigan’s Wake. OK. I’m a musician. I’m in a bar. It’s 9 a.m. -- weird learning-environment logic, but I’ll buy it, ’specially since joining Ben Arnold, Ben Morgan, Kristin Thomson, etc., is Philly expat John Luneau Esq., Palm Pictures LLC, Head of Business Affairs, Music Division. Luneau is an old dear pal of mine and the Philly music community who, because he works directly with Chris Blackwell, can buy and sell you quick as a wink. Register at 215-545-3385, ext. 31.… Greg Caputo, A&R for Megaforce (which just signed Bill Ricchini), brought Lollipop Lust Kill to RuffNation to record tunes.… Halllp: Scot Sax (former leader of Wanderlust) has a song on the new Jennifer Love Hewitt CD.… Along with releasing The Stiff Generation and hosting the Aug. 3 jam at Maxwell’s in Hoboken with The Bigger Lovers, Nixon’s Head and Photon Band, the label Groove Disques put out the new CD by roots-ter David Byron Ragsdale (frontguy for Sir Dot and Sky Grits), which also will be celebrated that Saturday.… Arrakis Records head Paul Muad’dib (a.k.a. PCP) not only put out the fine label sampler CD The Spice, he resigned from The Garfield Group, an ad agency where he was an account PR executive for everything from database software to guitar strings. “I’m quitting corporate America to do Arrakis full time,” he said. He’ll present J-Zone at Silk City Aug. 3 with Adam12, Kenneth Masters, Uncle T and Digs DarkLighter.… Before heading back to Chicago to record, Philly’s The Persona will play for Nettwerk America A&R with LaGuardia on Aug. 1 at The Khyber. Make some noise.… When Bernie Resnick Esq. ain’t busy repping American Idol Justin Guarini’s old a capella act The Midnight Voices (like Resnick’s cousin Pink, Guarini went to Doylestown’s C.B. East) and its debut CD from 1999, he’s busy celebrating his wife Sally Mattison Esq.’s b-day and their wedding anniversary.… Also b-daying is rock ’n’ roll bartendress Lisa Anderson. She’ll host/drink down an evening of tributes at Khyber Aug. 7 with playing pals Betsy Spivak, The Sparkles, 1929 and The Trouble with Sweeney. And where tributes are concerned, the Sara Weaver Rock-n-Roll Memorial Benefit takes place at RUBA on Aug. 3 with Matt Pond, O Mighty Isis, Thorazine, Brian McTear and her Swisher bandmates paying tribute as U-wisher.
