Though we have Blind Faith to thank for the "super group," Golden might be the world's first "somewhat-super group." Comprised of a hodgepodge of indie rock veterans (including members of Trans Am, Six Finger Satellite and Royal Trux), this Ohio four-piece specializes in the same kind of caustic rhythms mined by the likes of 5ive Style, the Delta 72 and, well, each member's other band. Golden has been conducting its nefarious experiments with tone, sound dynamics and structure for the better part of a decade now, while simultaneously seeking fame and fortune with their sundry bigger name projects. After two releases on D.C.'s Slowdime Records, their latest, Apollo Stars, has become the inaugural release on Trans Am's National Recording label. Utilizing an ancient, mystical tool known as the guitar, often in twos and threes, the band mixes surf rock, a touch of funk and the obligatory surge of punk.
Fri., Aug. 2, 9:30 p.m., $7, with Brother JT3 and Ty Cobb, The Khyber, 56 S. Second St., 215-238-5888.
