Their 1998 debut album, Low Life (End Recordings), pulls you through an atmospheric downtempo breakbeat voyage through mind-twisting smoothness -- a trippy combination of underground house, old-school beats, timbre-laden techno, and a touch of delta blues and dub reggae. L&Bs second album released earlier this summer, Night Works (XL Recordings), carries over the same adherence, but lifts the seductively textured sound to another level -- soothing your fluttery insides with soft chords, throbbing basslines, delicate percussion, pianos, guitars, brass and turntablism. The duos gift to the dance floor is rich, intense and remarkably graceful.
