The Catheters

The Pacific Northwest may have been ground zero for grunge, but it's also one of the long-time (and sometimes overlooked) strongholds for garage rock. Seattle's The Catheters seem hell-bent on keeping the area's penchant for fuzzed out guitar and primitive power chords in the public consciousness. Like forefathers (and labelmates) Mudhoney, The Catheters pray to the Stooges-MC5-Nuggets compilations holy trinity. Having toured with the Murder City Devils, Motörhead and, of course, Mudhoney, the band seems to have learned well; their Sub Pop debut, Static Delusions and Stone-Still Days has enough nervous energy to keep the caffeinated Seattle crowd wired (unfortunately repeated ingestions might leave you a bit haggard). Though The Catheters aren't doing anything that hasn't been done before, the band's maximum rock 'n' roll hits hard and makes no apologies.
