Aharon Varady -- dear promoter, web-friend to electronic music (Philadelphia Ambient Consortium: Music and Noise), radio host and Rotunda booker is leaving town. As "DJ Spaceling" and "Duffy Moon," he's thrilled the ambiently-aware of this city at WKDU since '97. He has been one of this town's most fascinating purveyors of fascinating sound too few of you tuned in to. His last show is Aug. 23, 9 a.m.-noon. I wish him well on whatever plane he's flying.... Mad; not gonna take it: Sean Agnew -- after refunding money from another cancelled gig (Ben Kweller/My Morning Jacket) may have new homes for R5 shows after being rousted from First Unitarian and the Rotunda. "All I need is a room in Center City that holds 300 people. Finding the Lindbergh baby's easier." While Agnew legally sorts out L&I oustings from those venues, he's found 1616 Locust (who took his Rainer Maria/Prince Paul show Saturday), Gasoline and maybe the Fels Planetarium.... Who hung alone VIP-style during Sonic Youth at the Troc? Director Kevin Smith. Silent Bob celebrated Ben Affleck's 30th b-day (cake and all) -- at Alma de Cuba with Jennifer Lopez, Matt Damon and Casey Affleck in Alma's Tobacco Room.... The opening of Penne's Pasta Lab moved to Aug 23. Atsa nize.... Missed a solo Beck telling jokes and playing songs of Sea Change at Zellerbach? Gonna miss the Flaming Lips at the Mann, too? Fear not: The Lips'll back Beck for shows in Philly in Oct.... Tierra Colombiana's annex-restaubar Mixto (11th & Pine) is now open.... Burning Brides to tour with Queens of the Stone Age? Don't put yer drinks down, BB.... Rumor: the party peep division of Philly's Foundation for Architecture is so in debt (a quarter-mil, I hear) there'll be no more Beaux Arts Ballin'? Will the Kimmel pick up the slack -- and their crowds -- with a mega-Halloween jam?... Janet Panic. Bilenky. Junta. Hunter. Whatever her name, she'll scare the bejesus outta you Aug. 25 at Silk with her new band, 58 Fury. Also playing: Psy-Ops, Thorazine drummer Dallas Cantland's side project.... Andrea M. Riso got named Director of Public Relations for the whole Bellevue Hotel (Shops at the B, Downstairs at the B, The Sporting Club, Founders, The Palm). Congrats.... Ex-She Became Grey goose Chris Gallagher's supa-slick sonic-blasting Superhero hits Aug. 23 at Pontiac with Planetary opening.... Unceremoniously traded Phillie Scott Rolen was booed at the Vet this past weekend when he debuted with his new team, the St. Louis Cardinals. Was it because he traded green feathers for red or because of his legendary Marah fandom? (This tip comes compliments of Marah's friends.) Dag.... If you're at DJs Major Taylor/Low Budget's "Let's Get Buck Naked & Fuck" at Silk Aug. 22, ask Low for Rockadeltro; a mix CD of Oran "Juice" Jones and Timex Social Club stuff (write to lowbudge@hotmail).... Mediocre waitress/magnetic author Rosalie Knecht and fictioneer Molly Russakoff read shorties at Molly's Cafe, Aug. 22.... On a South Philly tip, 2 St. Tony brings tales of Mummers and madness to Tritone Aug. 22 (is it perf-art if she's from the area she's lampooning?) and Misfit-loungers Ben Edmonds Trio, having returned from a world tour -- Lebanon (Pa.), Paris (Texas) -- hit Tritone Aug. 26. Guitarist Jay Medley (Science Fiction/Resin) may be older than they, but he parties (yes, the verb) harder.... Disco Biscuits stage a techno-jam festival -- Camp Bisco -- at Salanky Farms in Uniondale, Aug. 23-24. Dr. Alex Paterson of The Orb(!), Ropeadope DJ Logic's Project Logic, electro-maestros Scott Hardkiss, DB, The New Deal and Philly space-sorts Brothers Past and The Ally also play.... Funky folkies Grey Eye Glances celebrate A Little Voodoo with fan appreciation nights Aug. 27 (Concerts on the Square, Exton) and Aug. 28 (McLaughlin-Norcross Memorial Dell, Haddon Heights, N.J.).... Happy b-day to NARAS lady Holly Drauglis and to Mariel Weiner (whose photog-dad Scott landed his Ozzy photos on Epic's mega-remaster of Bark at the Moon). And to Me, mothafuckas. MEEEEE.
