As Sean Agnew and R5 Productions keep fightin’ the good fight against L&I, it seems a handful of heretofore 21-and-over spots in the city have begun to host more frequent all-ages shows. Whether one has anything to do with the other is anybody’s guess, but nevertheless, the North Star will open its doors to emo-kinder when Hot Rod Circuit plays tomorrow night. While their Sorry About Tomorrow isn’t the most groundbreaking record Vagrant has put out this year, the band does their thing the way it was meant to be: fast, loud and heartfelt. Rooting themselves in Get Up Kids familiarity, they still can make it sound exciting, while more ambitious moments traipse into the howling territory of Seaweed and Sunny Day Real Estate. And given the state of the scene these days, we should all thank the North Star for giving Hot Rod Circuit a small place to play when they’re still playing places this small.
Fri., Aug. 30, 7 p.m., $8-$10, with The June Spirit and Don’t Look Down, The North Star, 27th and Poplar sts., 215-684-0808.
