Looking for a raw, empowering sound straight outta New York City but you just don’t have the stomach for The Strokes? Dig Bitch & Animal. The raunchy girl duo, spartanly kicking out hardcore folk funk on just bass, electric violin (Bitch) and bongos (Animal), certainly has more macho chops than the girlish Strokes. Listen for Slade-stomping with rough aplomb on tunes like “Ganja” (to the tune of “Gloria”), “Sparkly Queen Areola” and the finest Iggy-tune-that-never-was “Best Cock on the Block.” All these fine tracks can be found on Eternally Hard, their sophomore CD/debut for Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records. (Find their first one, too, What’s That Smell.) Anyone who fondly feels as if DiFranco abandoned her awkward solo-gal rrriot-rage by taking on Technicolor arrangements (wrong! she’s better than ever) will adore B&A’s truculent take on T&A. Plus, the ladies do their tough taut thing with a sexed-up sense of humor. The Strokes will only make you titter inadvertently.
Sat., Sept. 14, 8 p.m., $12, The Point, 880 W. Lancaster Ave., Bryn Mawr, 610-527-0988.
