Cars dating back a century have more in common with our current tastes than we'd like to admit. Huge-hooded, gas-guzzling kings of the road, such as the early models of Rolls Royce or Cadillac, could be ancestors to the dark-windowed, shiny-white SUV. (For one thing, both are used for cruising more often than actually driving anywhere.) This weekend, the Radnor Hunt Concours d'Elegance will present their annual rally, a two-day toast to vintage cars and their owners' renowned love of the open road. Acknowledging the 100th anniversary of the Cadillac, which originally acquired fame because of its electric "self-starter" system, the event will show examples of the earliest models, along with a Flying Spur Rolls Royce and a 1932 Le Mans-type Aston Martin, the marque later associated with James Bond. With a photography exhibit by Michael Furman focusing on rare cars, the spirit of the weekend is more roaring '20s than roadhog. Still, when the collection takes to the road on Saturday morning, you might see some vintage speed freaks gathering pace.
Sixth Annual Radnor Hunt Concours d’Elegance, Road Rally Sat., Sept. 14, 9 a.m., $40; Feature Event Sun., Sept. 15, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., $10, $45 VIP, other events throughout weekend; Radnor Hunt Club, 826 Providence Rd., Malvern, 610-889-5540, www.radnorconcours.org.
