music
Young, old or really old, it's a Rolling Stones week. If you see 'em (they love sushi, leather goods and they're really tiny), write me. Can't find Mick or Keith milling 'round the Four Seasons? There are other in-town celebs to tend to. J-Lo? She likes sushi. Hear she has an appointment at Morimoto and is looking to hit other raw-boîtes. Eve? Her dad is throwing two parties -- after her "Fashion Montage" at Liacouras Center Sept. 21 -- at Eighth Street Lounge and Horton Gallery, where sponsors Human Brand, LOMO cameras (could mean P. Diddy'll be there) and Freaky Ice (alcoholic ice cream) will debut wares. (P.S. If you won't see Eve's movie Barbershop, buy its soundtrack with Philly friends Glenn Lewis and Amel Larrieux.) Liv Tyler was seen skulking around Grape St. Pub. Expect to see a Chrissie Hynde-less Pretenders gigging at Club Nostradamus' 205 Bainbridge debut Sept. 19. To celebrate the new digs, CN does Starr Garden Sept. 21 with opening week wonks like Ben Edwards Trio, Sweetie and kids from CN's "Goddess Theatre." Remember, any stars'd be wise to show at Cirque du Soleil's after-show party at 1616, Sept. 19.... It's a DEVOlved night as Robots In Disguise join force fields with The Inflatable Men at the Khyber Sept. 21.... Have Korman Suites sold the building and its restaurant Catalina to an up-and-coming developer?... Mike "Slo-Mo" Brenner is in L.A. doing music with Beck bud/Dust Brother John King and Static Music for ABC-TV's Push, Nevada, co-written and produced by Ben Affleck.... What was the most requested song at Rhythm Donkeys' 9/11 barbecue on Strawberry St.? New remixes of "Air Jamaica" found in free download-form on rhythmdonkeys.com. R-Donkey singer Jessica Zippergirl too can be found making creepy opulent metalwerks at Very Bad Horse.... Is Stephen Starr considering a format change for his smoked glass Tangerine?... If you missed Chinua Hawk's powerful vocals at Tiffany Bacon's Inner City Live at Soul Sanctuary, don't miss Sept. 20! (P.S.: Nick J of No Question steps out solo at S-Sanctuary Sept. 23 and Sept. 30, opening for Bilal at "Philly Unplugged.")... Philly's rootsiest songwriter gal Patty Blee opens for Todd Rundgren's pal Kasim Sulton Sept. 22 at Tin Angel.... Hope you saw old Philly dogs Krakatoa at Tritone. Da Brooklyn-relocates will tour the world while working on a third CD, now for Cuneiform.... While Sharon Pinkenson and co. shoot a slick "Set In Philadelphia" promotional-flick (to lure even more directors and producers to local locales), David Carroll plans the party, Sept. 22, Bar Noir. Expect Hackers and Jersey Girls.... We thought they made up: Seems YB Entertainment's Lisa Colbath and Clear Channel's Geoff Gordon are fighting over her Prophets of the Ghetto, whom she hoped to place on Friday's Public Enemy bill. In a series of e-mails, Colbath claims Gordon required POTG to sell $10,000 worth of tickets in order to get an opening slot, in an attempt to stagnate local artists. Gordon refutes a non-local-support claim by pointing at last week's roll-call of locals Octane, Carfax Abbey and Townhall, all supporting nationals at the TLA, as well as slews of recent local adds. Yikes.... Helen Little-managed metaleers 13Even showcase stuff for the all-agers (as well as major-label domos) at the Pontiac Sept. 21.... The Balcony begins its live garage series "phillyFREAKOUT" Sept. 20 with Tombeat’s Consortium spinning/screening rare psych-'60s vid clips.... Experimental/performance series Gate to Moonbase Alpha returns to the Rotunda, also Sept. 20, with Arco Flute Foundation, The Complex and Anti: Clockwise.... Karma Response Unit playas 40th Dimension and Uncle T (check their The Hogan Fam comp) help Digs Darklighter celebrate his new Arrakis record Sneaker Money Sept. 19 at Silk City.... What do Cynthia Mason, Brian Seymour and Rich Kaufmann have in common? They sang on Edan Cohen's Soundgun Studio's Burlap Palace, all are recording new stuff there and all appear at Tin Angel Sept. 19.... Shannon Niland throws "Black" Sept. 21 at Shampoo; a three-ring circus to rival Cirque, what with extended Phashion Phest stuff, DJs Michael T. Diamond and Gregg Foreman, Brian Sanders' Junk's "Demand & Writhe," Underworld visual projections, Re-Evolution's clothing premier and stunning live theatricals by Cyoni Darhling, Miss Paris, the cast of Forbidden Planett and the Bucks County Playhouse Fosse-ing through Chicago.... Happy b-day to restaurant promo mistress Patti Klein and clothier Tony Sparacino, who celebrates such at his monthly Lucky Lounge jam at brother Frank's La Tazza Sept. 20.
