OutFest

What better excuse to come out than a beautiful afternoon filled with flea marketing, rock-climbing, pet adopting, and the trop fabulous Henri David? Show your colors at this year's OutFest, Philadelphia's annual blocks-long party in honor of National Coming Out Day. Part dance party, part carnival, part informational festival, OutFest throws the doors of the Gayborhood open -- both literally and figuratively -- for a party that doubles as this extended summer's last hurrah and a celebration of Philadelphia's gay scene. Area businesses will keep their doors open for Sunday afternoon browsing, and PCHA will offer free health screenings, Hepatitis B vaccinations and HIV testing at the corner of 12th and Locust. Select panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt will also be on display on Camac Street. And for those of you who feel that no carnival is complete without some gustatory grandstanding, yes, the penis-shaped bagel contest will once again reveal which festival-goers can handle the most shmeers.

OutFest 2002, Sun., Oct. 13, noon-7 p.m., free, Gayborhood (between Spruce and Walnut, and Quince and 13th sts.), www.phillypride.org.
