Sing-Sing

Since we weren't around in the 1960s to watch the clash between mods and rockers, it might be fun to stage an anachronistic rematch between mods and new-wavers. It could get ugly. But if they tried to get along, they just might cast off their go-go boots and skinny ties and fool around to The Joy of Sing-Sing (Manifesto). Lisa O'Neill and Emma Anderson wrap their dreamy voices around hip-shaking Moogs and moody Hammonds -- they're urbane but not jaded, gauzy but grounded. (Anderson's old band, Lush, was whipped cream; Sing-Sing is mousse.) Gentlemen callers and oddball instruments are welcome -- O'Neill shares "Émigré" with Vinny Miller and a harp, while the hidden track, "Keep It That Way," finds her with Tim Keegan and an accordion -- but Sing-Sing is a girls' club. These chicks keep their chins and spirits up on the rebound (the outstanding "Feels Like Summer," a kiss-off with a kiss), and would rather hold hands than trade punches ("Me and My Friend"). It's a sophisticated style war, and everybody wins.

Wed., Oct. 30, 9 p.m., $8, with Venus Hum, The North Star, 27th and Poplar sts., 215-684-0808.
