Model trains: a hobby from an earlier, different time when imagination and patience were true virtues. Oh, what a golden age. Though times have changed, the model train tradition still has its followers and, with November designated National Model Railroad month, what better time for a model train expo? The Greenberg Train Show will be a round-trip ride: how-to-clinics, operating train layouts, a huge shopping market and much more for both the young novice and the seasoned armchair conductor. Train types for every enthusiast will be on hand, from prototype rail action on the N scale layout to impressive, traditional O gauge trains to huge, holiday-themed G gauge tracks.
The show will also feature live demonstrations of seven dynamic operating layouts, built by local model railroad club members. Competitive children will be able to participate in classic toy train races, while curious grownups can try their hand at the controls of a virtual train, by testing out the Microsoft Train Simulator software. So all aboard everyone: The next stop is fun.
Greenberg’s Train Show, Sat.-Sun., Nov. 2-3, two-day admission $2-$7 (free for children under 6), South Jersey Expo Center, Route 73 South, Pennsauken, N.J., 856-661-9111.
