For diehards and dilettantes alike, Kurt Rosenwinkel's homecoming gigs at Chris' have become must-see rituals. It's easy to understand why; the guitarist's telepathic ensembles work best in comfy venues like this (at Smalls, in the West Village, he recently had a line down the block). Longtime fans of the quartet may register disappointment over saxophonist Mark Turner's departure, but they should rest assured: Pianist Ethan Iverson is more than a worthy substitute, and his chemistry with Rosenwinkel couldn't be more intense. Theirs is a jazz practice of the highest order, fully formed yet always in a state of becoming.
Sat., Nov. 2, 9 p.m., $12, Chris’ Jazz Café, 1421 Sansom St., 215-561-3131.
