With the popularity of MTV's unholy triumvirate of Becoming, Fanatic and Cribs, one thing is for sure; people love their rock stars and, almost as much, objects touched or owned by them. Did you ever wonder where these people got hold of their cherished artifacts for their shrines? Where do you get that Les Paul guitar signed by Slash, or what dark, back alley do you have to creep through for a pair of Christina Aguilera's pants? In truth, it's not that hard -- and WMGK's Classic Rock Art Show has just made it a bit easier. Now in its third year, the show will be a spotlight for never-before-seen original art and lithographs, as well as handwritten, autographed song lyrics from a cross-section of rock royalty whose donated personal effects are helping to raise money for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Among the items up for bid are a Herb Ritts photo of Cher that she signed, the lyric sheets for Led Zeppelin's "Going to California" and "Our House" by Graham Nash (who'll be an honorary co-chairperson for the event), a band caricature of The Who by John Entwistle and, of course, a score of artwork from John Lennon and other Beatles memorabilia. Images of some of the art, as well as the current highest bids (last year's highest bid was $3,100 for a Denny Dent portrait of Bruce Springsteen), will be available at www.wmgk.com once the auction begins.
Exhibition and bidding run from Nov. 15-Dec 15, Liberty Place, 17th and Chestnut sts., www.wmgk.com.
