Waking Dreams

Take time away from your reality to experience "Waking Dreams," Coalition Ingenu and Project H.O.M.E.'s exhibit featuring Andrea Durning and Laura Levine. Decades ago, Durning decorated South Street with murals and signs for emerging businesses like Lickety Split and Copabanana. Today, Durning says she hopes her transcendental imagery causes the viewer "to experience the whole of which they are a part." Durning is currently a resident of one of Project H.O.M.E.'s living facilities and Laura Levine is one of the founding members of Coalition Ingenu. Levine paints to explore the therapeutic benefits of her creative process and credits her "meditative" technique for "accessing a collective consciousness and a feeling of peacefulness."

Coalition Ingenu is a nonprofit organization helping to promote artists with histories of homelessness or unique psychological conditions. As the organization states, "when people come from all walks of life to appreciate and purchase artwork, the social stigmas surrounding circumstances of poverty and mental illness are diminished." Coalition Ingenu is a refreshing rejuvenation of artists who are truly appreciative of the entire aesthetic process and not solely focused on the results.

Fri., Nov. 22, 5:30 -7:30 p.m., exhibition runs through Jan. 17, Project H.O.M.E. Back Home Café, 1515 Fairmount Ave., 215-878-1825.
