It is almost embarrassing how Erykah Badu steals the show in her Grammy-nominated, James Poyser-produced single, "Love of My Life." Her signature Holiday-esque vocals do aural cartwheels around her Coke-shilling boyfriend, Common, and his limited rhymes. It makes a fan hope that a quota will be placed on their shared studio time. It also makes you long for the release of the follow-up to 2000's gorgeous Mama's Gun, which could be out any day now, but probably, in the style of its predecessor, will be kept teasingly out of grasp for months. In the meantime, here's hoping Badu will offer a sprinkling of her new goodies, as well as a glimpse at her always-intriguing homemade fashion at the TLA this week.
Mon., Feb. 3, 9 p.m., $39.50, The TLA, 334 South St., 215-336-2000.
