In the world of sketch comedy, probably the easiest road to take is "wacky" (followed soon after by "disgusting" and "disturbing"). Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, the deadpan comedy duo behind www.timanderic.com, prefer something a little more subtle and bit less obvious. Wareheim, who also plays drums in Philly instrumental band Sola, calls it "super dryness. We're not trying to be bastards or assholes." None of the prank phone calls on their website involve anybody getting mad at anyone else, or using foul language or getting insulted. It's usually just a normal guy asking a Radio Shack employee where the Internet is or a well-meaning father calling a pet store to buy hundreds of parrots for his valedictorian son to release at a graduation ceremony ("I want the sky to be dark with all the birds"). After monthly screenings in New York, the two Temple grads will be debuting the first two half-hour episodes of their variety comedy show upstairs at The Khyber this Friday. Expect animated crank calls, musical numbers and movie spoofs including Batman 2000, wherein, according to Wareheim, "Batman smokes a bong and saves the world." OK, it's not all subtle.
Timanderic.com Episodes One and Two Screening Party, Fri., Feb. 7, 7 p.m., free, upstairs at The Khyber, 56 S. Second St., 215-238-5888.
