The Used
Never mind Bert McCracken¹s televised sleepovers with punk poseur Kelly Osbourne. Cries of sellout (or claims that Ernie could pummel The Used¹s vocalist with one felt fist tied behind his back) are discredited by the Utah band¹s raging self-titled debut (Reprise). McCracken¹s vocal range is powerful and unforced, pulling off harmonies and metal-edged shrieks with equal aplomb. "The Taste Of Ink! is the band¹s bio set to a pop-punk soundtrack. The demons of drug addiction are purged onto the poisoned melodic metal groove of "Maybe Memories.! Pianos and strings drip melodrama over the requisite cathartic moments on "On My Own! and "Blue and Yellow.! And McCracken times his temper tantrums so well throughout that all the screaming is appealing.
