Carissa's Wierd

Here on the East Coast, we have Ida to sate our hunger for artsy indie folk decorated with thoughtful guitar hooks, delicate keyboard and strings and ponderous lyrics sung by men and women (sometimes at the same time). Out West, they have Carissa's Wierd. On 2002's Songs About Leaving, singers Jenn Ghetto and Matthew Brooke take turns dazzling with heartfelt phrases and breathy realizations about life and love coming and going. And when their voices start to layer atop each other, the effect is captivating. They hardly ever make it this far from Seattle, so the show at the Church this weekend is a rare treat.

Sun., March 2, 7 p.m., $7, all ages, with The Prom, First Unitarian Church, 2125 Chestnut St., 800-594-8499.
