Wise and Foolish Builders

Last time the Wise and Foolish Builders played The Point it was a snowy night in December, the college kids were home on break and Bryn Mawr"s streets were eerily deserted. And still they were turning people away at the door. Playing two shows this weekend, the band has doubled your chances to see them (and halved your excuses for missing them). Though the Builders' gorgeous marriage of Rufus Wainwright's shimmering pop and Peter Gabriel's sophisticated song structures can be heard on 2000"s Sleight of Hand, the lineup has filled out since then, with Ben Smith's lovely keyboard lines now lifted by bells and cut by some creative pedal steel work. Great, soaring new songs like "Ten Foot Pole" are due to be recorded and released in the upcoming months, which makes Friday a great opportunity for a sneak peek.

Fri., Feb. 28, 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., $10, with Denison Witmer, The Point, 880 W. Lancaster Ave., Bryn Mawr, 610-527-0988.
