Jacky Terrasson and Stefon Harris

Take one part explosive vibes, one part capricious keys, and turn up the rhythm-section heat. No need to stir, since these ingredients blend themselves. We're talking about chemistry here -- the kind that can't be simulated or forced. Listen to Kindred, released on Blue Note in 2001, and you'll hear it. Flashy yet thoughtful, and full of jazz fire. While there have been other great partnerships of the keys -- John Lewis and Milt Jackson, Gary Burton and Chick Corea -- the Terrasson-Harris hookup sounds more elemental, urgent, in step with the pace of the street. Since Kindred, both artists have recorded solo Blue Note albums (Harris' Grand Unification Theory and Terrasson's Smile) that seem flat by comparison. And it's not just that these musicians bring out the best in each other. Together they manage to produce something technically advanced, full of joy and shimmering like brand new.

Sat., March 15, 7:30 p.m., $40, The Kimmel Center, 260 S. Broad St., 215-893-1999.
