Flappers and gangsters of the city, unite! You have nothing to lose but your sobriety.
Jazz, booze, dancing and guns were the hallmarks of the Roaring ’20s. On the down low, I can tell you the first three can be found this Saturday night at the Glen Foerd Mansion. The fine proprietors at Glen Foerd are turning the house into a speakeasy, promising a night of decadence that the city has not seen since the good old days of Prohibition. Philly-based Ella Gahnt and the Dr. Jay Trio will set the Jazz Age mood by providing music in the drawing room. If the music inspires you, you can foxtrot, shimmy and Charleston the night away with the Mixed Pickles Vintage Dance Company, a Philly group dedicated to keeping all the old dances (from Colonial days through the Swing Era) alive. They dance under the motto, "You always knew you were born in the wrong century." So, get out your pinstripe suits and feather boas, because attendees are encouraged to wear period attire. Aspiring Al Capones are asked to leave their tommy guns at home.
