It’s American to speak your mind; it’s also American to love decadent desserts. Since this past week, when "patriotic peace cake" became part of the menu at the White Dog Café, you can speak out and indulge at the same time, or, depending on your wartime philosophy, just enjoy a rich piece of cheesecake. Proceeds benefit the Global Exchange-Iraq Campaign.
Fresh local raspberries and blueberries add American flavor and color, but the cake's crowning glory is a 6-inch cookie shaped like a hand doing the peace sign. The cookie's rainbow sprinkles are surely a nod to the melting-pot idea -- this is the White Dog, after all. Dog staffer Naomi Fiordimondo located the cool cookie cutter at www.kitchengifts.com.
