The Screening Room is a new series promoting independent film every third Thursday of the month. Curated by Sarah Poindexter, the kickoff hosts filmmaker Michael Dennis¹ premiere screening of A Taste of Lady Alma. It¹s a 10-minute digital film tracking a Philly soul sista on the move. Also set to screen is the 48 Hour Film Project winner, The Mole. The Screening Room at L¹Etage is an intimate setting with live music, food, drinks and film. Thu., May 15, 9 p.m.-1 a.m., $5, L¹Etage (above Beau Monde), 624 S. Sixth St., 215-592-0656,

The Unity Movement swoops down on Old City this week. It's the Blue Method, Subtle Ground, Natural Selection and Aguafuego rocking it live for the love of music. Fri., May 16, 9 p.m., $7, The Khyber, 56 S. Second St., 215-238-5888.
Who's doing South Street on Saturday? Oaxerai, Ziplok, Disciples of Discipline, DJ Krimson and the bangin' live band Subtle Ground (yep, fresh off a Unity Movement gig the night before). Sat., May 17, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., $6, Tritone, 1508 South St., 215-545-0475. Same night: The Mixx DJ Tour. And hey, the talent on the bill is so hefty and the price of the show is so cheap (free!), you have to go. Gangstarr and DJ Kay Slay are rocking Philly alongside DJs Klever, Kwestion and Obi-Won. The music should be nothing but fire since Guru and Premier have new material to go with their back catalogue of hits and Kay Slay has an album dropping this month. And the local DJs? You know how they get down. Sat., May 17, 10 p.m., free, Transit, 600 Spring Garden St., 215-925-8878.
It will be vendors, craftswomen, holistic healers/readers, music, panels, films and a health expo all in one place at the Black Women's Arts Festival. Sat., May 17, and Sun., May 18, noon-10 p.m., free, The Rotunda, 4014 Walnut St., 215-573-3234, e-mail
