Bad Boy Bill
Ask a house head about the Chicago scene and they'll probably bring up the usual suspects: Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, Paul Johnson and Frankie Knuckles. But during the peak of the American rave scene, a different wave of Windy City house was embraced by the glowstickin', UFO-wearin' candy kids -- the bangin', stompin', funky shit from names like DJ Funk, DJ Bam Bam and Bad Boy Bill. As the founder of International House Records, Bad Boy Bill seemed to dominate the American rave scene (at least for a short while). He was invited time and time again to deliver his ultra-hard, Chi-Town-style funked-upness to a number of the Local 13 raves here in Philly. As boldly displayed on his notorious
Bangin' the Box and
House Connection CD/tape series, the ruthless Bad Boy can scourge through 50 records on one CD, loosely cuttin' and scratchin' and unleashing his hip-hop background faster than you can say He really is one bad mutha fucka! Well, the kids love it. Or do they? E always helps.
