If there is any sort of basketball saving grace for Philadelphia right now, besides getting to see Kobe cry on network TV last week, it's this: the NBA Rhythm 'n Rims tour with Atlanta's very own Cee-Lo! Rolling into town like a freaked-out Mack truck, the Rhythm 'n Rims 18-wheeler will be hard not to notice. After being put in park, this bad-boy Transformer worthy of Saturday morning cartoon status vamps into a 30, 000-square-foot basketball theme park complete with concert stage. Fans of all ages can ball till they fall in the Slam Dunk Contest, a three-point shootout, the free-throw contest, the freestyle dribble match-up and more! Or just nod your head to Mr. Lo. So what if he didn't win that Grammy? Cee-Lo Green is marvelous. Spectacular. A sight to behold. It's hip-hop soul rocking out to R&B and being spanked hard by gospel. Got it? And there's still more to do. Measure your hands, feet and height alongside the pros, create a self-portrait of you jamming a dunk and e-mail it to your friends. Or pound your thumbs to the latest video game and watch the playoffs on the big screen. Today's players as well as a few legends will be on hand to deliver their coveted John Hancocks. This enormous interactive basketball and music tour will roll across the country through the end of the summer, leaving a trail of double-time dribbling and behind-the-back passing madness. Be there!
NBA Rhythm ’n Rims, Sat.-Mon., May 24-26, as part of Jam on the River, 12:30 p.m.-9 p.m., free with festival admission of $10-$20, Penns Landing, Columbus Blvd. at Chestnut St., 866-NBA-JAMS.
