The industry says fly straight and youll get your paper and maybe even a gold plaque. So what does veteran producer/visionary Prince Paul do? He makes albums with little regard for trends, which generally reap more artistic appreciation (see A Prince Among Thieves and Handsome Boy Modeling Schools So … Hows Your Girl?) than Soundscan numbers, and more nerdy aficionados than dime-store groupies. The former Stetsasonic DJ, a member of horror-cores classic Gravediggaz lineup and Dan the Automator and De La Soul collaborator, has always had his hands in a number of musical stewpots. But Pauls latest effort, Politics of the Business, is more of a personal (and often hilarious) diatribe on the generally ludicrous and underhanded dealings of the recording industry. Joining the precocious Professor Prince will be Aceyalone, a gifted syllable-bender and member of the time-honored Los Angeles collective Freestyle Fellowship.
Mon., June 9, 8 p.m., $13-$15, with Aceyalone, Ugly Duckling and Eyedea, TLA, 334 South St., 215-336-2000.
