Reykjavik, Iceland: It"s where we find the open-air art-drone of Sigur Rós and the operatic electronics of Björk. But where are the claustrophobic popsters? With feedback guitars, dripping-wet reverb at full blast and single-fingered Manzarek-style organs sliming through slender, psychedelic "60s AM melodies, Singapore Sling has made itself a third of that unholy trio. On The Curse of Singapore Sling (Stinky), guitarist/deadpan singer Henrik Bjornsson shows there"s no business like echo-business as the tube-amp-popping, singed-speaker aesthetic fuels every part of his menacing death-pop. While the crusty fuzz is Singapore Sling"s most insistent quality, Bjornsson and his pals also dig sunshiny, acoustic cheer (³Summer Garden²) and big-drummed doom rock (³Midnight²).
Thu., July 3, 9 p.m., $8, with The Sympathizers and Persona, The North Star, 27th and Poplar sts., 215-684-0808.
